Mr. Ranjan Mitter

Mr. Ranjan Mitter

Principal

There are many noble pursuits that present themselves to dedicated women and men, but perhaps none so praiseworthy as being purveyors of education. This proposition becomes even more accentuated when the country in question is India. India is one of the youngest countries in the world, and its demographic dividend is likely to benefit not just itself, but most societies and communities the world over in the decades to come. Empowering India’s children will mean reducing inequities and potentially.

The school promises an intimate association between students and faculty and is often considered a second home by most, if not all its pupils, and it remains so for the best part of their lives. A sense of belonging and family envelops most offering a better future for them and for the whole world.

If India’s children are called upon to play such a defining role, and it is already the case and will be even more so, they need to be rooted in their own civilisational heritage yet have their windows open to the world. It should be at once a robust tradition of national education that finds itself comfortable and sees no contradiction with a broad international outlook. It should be an education that seizes on the best the past has to offer but looks forward with confidence and a sense of adventure to the future.

Well into 75 years of independence, India is struggling to implement a national agenda of education. Yet to be successful, such an agenda will need, not just the wording of a policy document, but missionary zeal, fervour and inspiration. It will need to benchmark itself on successful experiments that have been conducted in this sphere and seek to extrapolate those learnings in a wider spectrum.

The Future Foundation School proposes to humbly offer such an agenda of education to the children who enter its portals. Set in the land of Tagore where the world can meet India and vice versa, the school is inspired by the teachings of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo, prophets and seers who enunciated and implemented an agenda of national education with a global outlook.

Set in natural sylvan surroundings that belong to the Mother of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry, TFFS already boasts of a successful experiment that started almost half a century ago. The alumni of the school are to be found across the world and their demeanour comes across to the interested onlooker as distinctive, their contribution in their respective fields of endeavour often profound.
Learning, more often than not, can be and is fun, and is imparted without the learner always realising the elements of the transaction. Coming to school usually means renewing a joyful experience. Scholastics and Co-scholastics enjoy virtually equal pride of place, often melting seamlessly into one another. Passions and lifelong interests are formed, fostered, and encouraged by the teacher-mentors.

In addition to English, students can opt to study French, Bengali, Hindi, and Sanskrit from the very beginning or soon thereafter. This enables them to get regional, national, and international exposure. Enabling opportunities also allow them to choose pan India as well as international study options and job berths. There are specific possibilities of studying later in France, and this is an edge the students have. More importantly, for the person who wishes to plumb the depths, the Mother and Sri Aurobindo’s original texts can be studied. It can help improve language skills, enhance abilities to analyse but also synthesise, anchor the growing child and help him or her find his role in the world with a deep and abiding sense of values.

Studies are often theme-based or project-centred which prevents rigid compartmentalization between subjects and builds the perception that knowledge is beyond artificial barriers. Our academic results are coincidentally very good and have been so for decades, without the pedagogy being expressly designed for that.

The Future Foundation School is affiliated with Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) a reputed legacy institution, a progressive national school board aligned to NEP 2020 policy of the Government of India.

As children grow up, they are encouraged to take part in a sport of their choice and pursue it alongside their scholastic obligations. Parents and children are advised on good dietary choices and a school canteen helps fill potential gaps. The journey of life cannot be accomplished without sound health, and the foundations have to be laid in childhood.

Children also need to be taught basic skills which are part of their comportment and their daily routine. The intention is to build self-reliance and confidence in the kids.

As children grow up, they are encouraged to go on excursions organised by the school. This includes curricular transactions out of class, as well as helping build teamwork and team spirit, enhance life skills, and inculcate appropriate social behaviour.

Sri Aurobindo foretold a brighter, nobler existence for mankind. TFFS, as the name simplistically suggests, attempts to modestly build forerunners of such a future.

The Future Foundation School, Regent Park, Kolkata About Us

The Future Foundation School is founded on the principles and inspired by the light of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. Guided by Shri Pradyot Kumar Bhattacharya (1905-1984), iconic engineer and trustee of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry, Smt. Joya Mitter 1936-1999), a devotee and cultural aficionado, founded the school in 1981 and modelled it in the style of the Gurukul of ancient times. After her demise in 1999, Shri Ranjan Mitter took charge as Principal and over the past two decades, has transformed the school into a contemporary, future-ready institution. It is an organic extension of a pre-school, Arun Nursery, which was named and blessed by the Mother. Shri Arun Tagore, a reputed lawyer belonging to the famous Tagore family lineage, founded the pre-school, seeking permission of The Mother to do so, who named the school ‘Arun Nursery’, much to his embarrassment. Thus, on September 04, 1972 the pre-school began its journey and from these origins grew The Future Foundation School.
