Principal
Col S Mohanrao R assumed the charge of Principal, Sainik School Tilaiya on 07 Oct 2023. He is an alumnus of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The officer was commissioned in Indian Army in Dec 2003. The Officer, during his memorable and eventful career so far, has served at various operational, Instructional and Administrative appointments.
He did his Infantry attachment with 12 JAT at Arunachal Pradesh. The Officer’s Instructorial tenures include Instructor at AEC Training college and Centre, Pachmarhi; Instructor at NDA Pune, Instructor at OTA, Chennai and Instructor at OTA, Gaya.
His staff appointments include Bde, GSO-I at Arunachal Pradesh and Assam; Divisional GSO-I at Kalimpong and Col GS (Edn) HQ 15 Corps.
The officer has also served as Principal, Rashtriya Military School, Belgaum and Principal, Sainik School Chittorgarh.
The Erudite officer has done his Masters in Physics and B.Ed. He has a two year diploma in Russian language; Advanced Diploma in Computer Software Systems Analysis and Applications and Bachelors in Library and Information Sciences.

Vice Principal
Lt Col Lalnunsiama assumed the charge of Vice principal, Sainik School Tilaiya on 06 May 2023. He is an alumnus of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The officer was commissioned into Indian Army on 10 Dec 2004. The Officer, during his memorable and eventful career so far, has served at various operational, Instructional and Administrative appointments.
He did his Infantry attachment with 8 Maratha Light Infantry from 2004-2006. The Officer’s Instructorial tenures include Education Officer at The Parachute Regiment Training Centre from 2006-2008, Instructor Class-B at National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla from 2011-2013 and Instructor Class-B at AEC Training College & Centre from 2017-2020.
The Officer is a qualified Dzongkha (Bhutanese official language) interpreter and had his Extra Regimental Employment tenure with 11 Wireless Experimental Unit from 2016-2017.
His staff appointments include SO 2 (Education) at Headquarters 59 Mountain Brigade from 2008-2011, SO 2 (Education) at Headquarters 24 Mountain Brigade from 2015-2016. Prior to his present appointment, the officer was posted as SO 1 (Education) at Headquarters 2 Mountain Division from 2020-2023.

Administrative Officer
An alumnus of Sainik School, Bijapur and National Defence Academy, Cdr Prashant Biradar was commissioned into Indian Navy on 01 Jan 2013 in Executive Branch. The Officer has served onboard INS Savitri, Tillanchang prior to the specialisation in Anti Submarine Warfare and thereafter onboard INS Mysore and INS Ranvir as specialist. The Officer has assumed the charge of Administrative Officer of Sainik School Tilaiya on 29 Apr 2025.
Sainik School, Tilaiya, Koderma Withdrawal Policy
Withdrawal on Parents Request.
Parents are to apply for withdrawal giving at least two months’ notice or else caution money will be forfeited.
All scholarship availed during stay at the school will have to be refunded.
Non-payment of fees.
Repeated defaulters in payment of fees.
Parents will have to clear school dues and refund all scholarship provided by the Government for issue of TC or else action as deemed fit will be initiated.
Medical Grounds.
Medically unfit child who is likely to be unfit for entry into NDA.
Can be permitted to continue his studies on payment of full fees and other expenses from the date he is found medically unfit.
Cases with Hanson’s diseases will be compulsorily withdrawn.
Poor Academic Grounds.
Upon failure of child in a class, parent can decide to either repeat the class as Full Fee Paying or withdraw his child.
Child will not be eligible for Scholarship.
Withdrawal on Disciplinary Ground.
If the boy’s conduct, behavior or influence is detrimental in any way to the interest of the other children / school, he will be withdrawn.
Caution money will be forfeited and all scholarship awarded will have to be refunded.

It was on 16 Sept of 1963, that the foundation stone of the 12 Sainik Schools in the chain of 33 Sainik Schools sprawling across the length and breadth of the country was laid down. This fledgling nascent school was a sequel to the concerted endeavour of the legendary cultural ambassador and the then Union Defence Minister, Late V K Krishna Menon and the visionary Chief Minster from Bihar Late K B Sahay. The onus of translating vision from the drawing boards into reality fell on the scholar Principal Lt Col LEG Smith. Thus was born SST which later has been ensconced as a landmark on the academic scene of the state and nation as well. Today it is a top ranking nursery to the NDA. Located near tilaiya dam in the district of Koderma, Sainik School Tilaiya is 18 Kms away from the nearest rail head – Koderma on the Howrah – Delhi chord line nearer to Gaya. The Chhotanagpur Plateau and Tilaiya Dam provide an ideal backdrop to Sainik School Tilaiya.
