BADMINTON “Badminton goals are attained not by strength but by perseverence.” – Anonymous Badminton is the fastest racket sport in the world. A shuttle can tra vel as fast as 200 mph. From the small streets to the big sports academies, badminton has always been a favorite. In Mayo as well we have put badminton on high pedestial. Our team has earned laurels at state and national levels. We, at Mayo, have aspired to reach our targets and put in maximum effort every growing term. Badminton for us is not just a sport, it is a way of life. BASKETBALL Mayo College Girls’ School offers its students a large variety of sports, among which Basketball is the most opted for sport. We have three outdoor courts on campus, which were converted from cement to synthetic in the year 2014. Under the guidance of our excellent coaches the students acquire great skills in the sport. Due to the combined efforts and perseverance of both the coaches and the students, MCGS has been represented at the district, state, IPSC and the National levels. The school also organized competitions for the sport which are held for the girls to improvise on their basic game skills and teamwork. With the kind of support and facilities provided. Our girls have brought laurels to the school and we are sure that they will continue to do so in the year to come. CRICKET Under the able guidance of Dr. Sultana Khan, a renowned coach who is also under the aegis of Rajasthan cricket academy, cricket has remained one of the most vital sports in mayo. with state of art infrastructure such as the bowling machine, two fully made practice nets and a well-maintained pitch, the team has continuously improved over the years and performed exceptionally well at the district, ipse, state, national and international levels. The English Creative Writing activity at Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer is an after school activity held for students from classes 9th-12th. The students all participate in society activities such as song writing, prose and poetry mix genre writing, and character building etc. The society focuses on every student’s abstract thinking, their hands-on thinking abilities and it gives them an outlet for creativity. English creative writing helps in giving every student an opportunity for overall development in various fields, it helps them develop a unique form of self- expression, it makes them think out of the box and helps in enhancing their imagination. The activity has also allowed the students to actively engage in prestigious events such as the Spell Bee Competition, the Nanhi Chhaan Essay Contest and the Royal Commonwealth Essay Competition. In 2021 one of our student , Raisa Gulati fetched the Junior Runner up position in the Royal Commonwealth Essay Competition. English Dramatics Society ‘All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.’ These famous words, written by William Shakespeare, best mirror the spirit and modus operandi of the English Dramatics Society. The students of the society from classes IX to XII collect once every week to enjoy a unique learning opportunity of exploring and expressing a multitude of emotions which throng the robust minds of its members. The students involve themselves in a variety of activities like role play, voice modulation, script writing, stage set up, etc. and dabble in multiple techniques pertaining to stagecraft. The budding performers lap up the opportunity to participate in a large number of Inter and Intra school events besides learning important life skills like effective communication, team work, power of expression and empathy. English Debating Society The Debating Society at Mayo College Girls’ School is one of the most prestigious societies on campus. The society believes that every voice matters and provides a safe space to the students to express themselves freely on matters of national and international importance. Engaging discussions are held weekly and the society aims to explore and encourage students to use their voice for the right. Our voice can make heads turn, mouths open and revolutions start. It is our most powerful weapon and in the Debating society we want students to be aware of exactly that. We practice different styles of debating such as British Parliamentary, Modified Cambridge, etc. and conduct various activities that help students think on the spot. We aim to foster critical thinking and spread awareness about various issues that plague our society. Our students participate in some of the most prestigious debates around the country such as the Saroj Srivastava Debate, Slaters Debate, SRCC Debate, and the World Schools Debating Championship and use the different techniques that they learn in the debate club to win laurels in the same.
