DIY New Year Ideas

This new year why not have a party for your little one and his friends? Of course, it will be a day time party as you don’t expect kids to be up till 12 am! With our easy DIY ideas, the party is sure to be a hit with kids and be easy on your pockets. So go ahead and plan a party for the munchkins!

Decor:

  • Balloon Clock: Stick 12 balloons on the wall in the shape of a circle to represent a clock. Have your child write down the numbers 1 to 12 on pieces of paper and stick them to each balloon. The adorable wall clock is sure to be loved by the kids. Make sure you keep enough of extra balloons at hand so that kids don’t end up tearing up the clock to play with balloons!

  • Happy New Year Garland: You can let your kids get creative with this one. Get them to write the letters of the phrase ‘Happy New Year’ on cut-outs of paper in a decorative manner. String them together for your very own Happy New Year garland. Make sure to use thick paper that doesn’t tear up easily while stringing.

Food:

  • Festive cupcakes: Make these easy peasy cupcakes with your kids for a yummy treat!

You will need:

For the muffins: 150 gms softened butter, 150 gms sugar, 3 eggs, 125 gms all-purpose flour, 25 gms cocoa powder, 1 ½ tbsp baking powder.

For the icing: 1 egg white, ½ tbsp lemon juice, 200 gms icing sugar, cupcake decorations like chocolate chips and sprinklers in different colours.

Method:

Muffins: Sieve flour, cocoa and baking powder together and keep aside. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Now, slowly beat in the eggs. Add flour, cocoa and baking powder mix. Pour them into muffin cups and Bake at 180 degrees centigrade for 10-15 minutes.

Icing: Whip the egg whites until frothy. Add lemon juice and slowly beat in icing sugar. Ice the cupcakes with the icing and let it set.

  • New year themed savouries: Use pizza dough and shape them into new themed shapes. For example, shape them into the numbers 2019 or the letters Happy new year. Bake for 15-20 minutes in a preheated oven at 180 C. Golden savouries are ready to hit the party!

Games and play:

  • Masked blowers: These are easy to make and super fun too! Get some thick chart paper in various colours and get your kids to make masks that they would like their friends to wear. They can get as creative as they want. Once the masks are ready, insert a hole in the mouth area and insert a party blower and stick it with tape. Will be a good option to use for the photo booth too.

  • Pin the clock: A twist to the traditional pin the tail game. Make a large-sized clock using chart paper. Cut out several hands for the clock and keep in a box. At the party, blindfold the kids and get them to stick the needle on the clock. Whoever is closest to the middle point of the clock wins the game.

  • Party crowns: Get some plain black hair bands. Use pipe cleaners in different colours and twine them around the hair bands in whatever way you wish to make cute looking crowns.

  • Magic Wands: The really young ones are sure to enjoy this. Cut out star shapes from thick chart paper. Get your kids to decorate the starts using glitter and stickers. Stick the stars on craft sticks. Let little ones enjoy using them in pretend play.

Hope your kids enjoy preparing for their very own new year party!
