Physical attendance is no longer compulsory in the current academic year across schools in Gujarat. However, it is worth mentioning that this scheme has been rolled out only for students enrolled in schools affiliated with the Gujarat State Board of Education.
This decision was announced by a representative of the Gujarat Ministry in the High Court on Wednesday. The Court was hearing a petition challenging a notification circulated by the government that stated complete offline classes compulsory for all students. The notification, that was circulated on February 15, mentioned that physical classes would be completely resumed as the risk of the Covid-19 pandemic had reduced drastically.

The High Court had questioned the circular in a previous hearing as the risk of the pandemic is yet not over. After the government representative mentioned that attendance will not be compulsory for students, the court stated, “attendance for physical appearance in the school for the academic year 2021-2022 would not be compulsory and it is left to the discretion of the respective schools and the parents.” The court also mentioned that this decision is applicable to ICSE or CBSE schools.
